Backyard Poultry Workshops

There is a rise in the popularity of urban farming/urban agriculture and what some simply call self-sufficiency. Included in urban agriculture is the idea of backyard chickens. If I could have chickens in my neighborhood I would find the following workshop very helpful.

Backyard Poultry Workshop
Presented by the Alabama Cooperative Extension Service

May 19
1:30-3:30
North Shelby Library

This workshop is for beginners who either have a few chickens and want to learn more, or those who have considered raising a few chickens and want help getting started. It will cover: general backyard issues, including housing and breed types; feeding and managing the flock; disease issues and biosecurity. For further questions contact Nelson Wynn @ 669.6763 or wynnel@aces.edu. Or Sallie Lee @ 879-6964 x11 or leesall@aces.edu.

Fee of $5.00 can be paid day of event, please register by Monday May 16th.

Of further interest, take a look at a couple of the books we have in the library to check out.
